Managing Lipedema Diet

Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and White Meat

Living with lipedema can be tough, especially when it comes to figuring out what to eat. Over time, I’ve found that a gluten-free, dairy-free (milk protein) diet centered around white meat works wonders for me.

Why Go Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free?

Gluten and dairy can cause inflammation, which is a big deal for those of us with lipedema. Cutting them out of my diet has helped reduce the pain and swelling, plus it’s been great for my digestion.

Why Focus on White Meat?

White meat, including chicken, turkey, and white fish, is lean and high in protein. It provides essential nutrients without the high fat content found in red meat. This makes it perfect for maintaining energy levels and muscle mass while minimizing inflammation and weight gain. And perfect for a lipedema diet.

Lipedema-Friendly Recipe: Baked Lemon Herb White Fish

This baked lemon herb white fish recipe is a go-to in my kitchen. It’s quick, easy, and packed with flavor. And the rest of the family can add whatever they want 😊

Ingredients:

  • 2 white fish fillets (cod, pike-perch, pollok)
  • 1 lemon (zested and juiced)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Make the Marinade: Mix together olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried thyme, dried parsley, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Marinate the Fish: Place the fish fillets in a baking dish and pour the marinade over them, making sure they’re well coated. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes if you can.
  4. Bake: Bake the fish for 20-25 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy!

Serving Suggestion: Pair your baked lemon herb white fish with some steamed veggies and aioli.

Or for dinner, you might enjoy oven-baked salmon with steamed zucchini pasta and hummus.

A Lifestyle More Than a Lipedema Diet

Switching to a gluten-free, dairy-free diet with a focus on white meat has made a huge difference in managing my lipedema. It’s not a cure, but it’s definitely helped with the symptoms and made me feel healthier overall. I hope this post and the recipe give you some new ideas for your own diet.
